Real Madrid coach Carlo Ancelotti acknowledges the challenge of facing Manchester City in the Champions League, calling their frequent battles a "modern classic" of the competition.
Real Madrid and Manchester City have developed one of the fiercest rivalries in recent Champions League history, having met in the knockout stages four times since the 2019/20 season. With both teams consistently competing at the highest level, Carlo Ancelotti believes this fixture has become a new Champions League Clasico.
"This match feels like a modern classic because we have been playing against each other for many years. I think it will be as exciting and even as always this year. In these matches, everything depends on the approach, individual quality, confidence, and character. This is the type of match where you have to be the best in all aspects, not just in one," Ancelotti said ahead of the highly anticipated showdown.
Despite City's inconsistent form in the Premier League and Champions League this season, Ancelotti dismissed any notion that Real Madrid are clear favorites.
"Playing against City always gives you a headache. Guardiola is a coach who has given a lot to football because he is an innovator, and I personally respect him a lot. He is one of the best, if not the best. Preparing for matches against his team is always a nightmare because he has ideas that make you think about a lot," Ancelotti said, praising his long-time managerial rival.
