Newcastle United has won the English League Cup for the first time in their history!
The Magpies delivered a commanding performance against Liverpool, securing a well-earned 2-1 victory in the final at Wembley Stadium.
Liverpool, the defending champions, came into the match as favorites, but Newcastle showed greater determination, especially in the first half. Just before the break, Dan Burn rose high to meet a Kieran Trippier corner, heading home to give Newcastle a 1-0 lead.
Things went from bad to worse for Liverpool immediately after halftime. In the 52nd minute, Alexander Isak doubled the lead after reacting quickest to a deflection, sending the Newcastle fans into celebration.
Despite dominating the Premier League this season, Liverpool struggled to create clear chances. Newcastle, on the other hand, remained composed and continued to pose a threat on the counter.
In the dying moments of the match, Federico Chiesa pulled one back for Liverpool, scoring in the 94th minute. However, it was too little, too late.
At the final whistle, Newcastle United were crowned EFL Cup champions for the first time in their history, marking a historic moment for the club and their fans.
