Real Madrid has officially responded to the shameful behavior of some fans who racially abused Barcelona’s young star Lamine Yamal.
Real Madrid has taken a strong stance against racism over the past year, especially concerning incidents targeting their Brazilian star Vinicius Junior. However, following El Clasico, it is now the Madrid club in the spotlight due to the disgraceful abuse aimed at Barcelona's 17-year-old star and Spanish national team hero from Euro 2024.
At the Bernabeu, offensive chants such as “puto negro” and “puto moro”—a deeply offensive term in Spain used to insult people of North African descent—were clearly audible.
Today, Real Madrid responded to the events, condemning the abuse and committing to identifying and penalizing those responsible.
“Real Madrid firmly condemns any behavior involving racism, xenophobia, or violence in football and sports and deeply regrets the insults directed at Lamine Yamal by certain fans in one section of the stadium,” the club said in a statement.
“The club has initiated an investigation to find and identify those responsible for these deplorable and despicable actions, enabling us to take appropriate disciplinary and legal measures,” Real Madrid added.
